Frank Kern's Secret to Success Is Simpler Than Expected


Success seems to elude many people, like fog when you grasp at it with your fingers. You come away empty-handed.
I sat down with the celebrity entrepreneur known as the "President of the Internet", Frank Kern. We talked about how he progressed from a "How to Train Your Parrot" ebook, to being the highest paid internet marketing consultant, and working with Tony Robbins in very short period of time.
Early in his life, Frank Kern was like most of us. He couldn't seem to get a handle on becoming successful, earning a good living and, most importantly, loving what he did.
Sure, he worked hard - at times, harder than most. As a young salesman, he hated what he was selling and didn't enjoy the prospect of cold calling and going door-to-door to face rejection. Of course, who would?
One thing, however, that makes Frank Kern stand head and shoulders above the rest of us is that he took the time to notice when someone else was being successful - and he learned from them.
I'm not saying he immediately stopped struggling. Most importantly, and this is a common trait of successful people, he had the perseverance to doggedly keep going when all was lost. And you'll find that not everyone will do that.
To say that Frank Kern has figured out the secret to success is an understatement. He's living proof that the great Zig Ziglar was right. According to Ziglar, "You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want."
According to Kern, "There's a misconception among business people that it's about the 'thing' they're selling or it's about the marketing they're doing to sell that 'thing.' It's never about the thing you're selling (which, of course, should be excellent). The most important thing is the market, the people that the thing is going to be sold to."
Further, he goes on to say, "There must be an existing market of people who are intensely interested in getting the result that the thing promises and that the thing must deliver. Without the focus on that first, all is lost."
He believes that all marketing should be about that customer. It should be about providing the solution to a problem or need they have. In other words, it should be about helping those people.
One of the downfalls many business people have is that they have a great idea they're passionate about. The problem becomes when they fail to determine if others feel the same way about their idea. If there is no demand for your product or service, you're going to have a very difficult uphill battle which is likely going to end in defeat.
The guiding focus that has made Kern successful in recent years is his deep-seated belief that the amount of income you're going to generate in any market is directly proportional to the amount of goodwill that you have in that marketplace.
Kern further believes that you create goodwill by providing value to others from the very beginning of your relationship with them. In other words, he provides results in advance.
He has found that when you provide value to others without the expectation of anything in return - when you provide results first - eventually, others will be happy to provide value back to you in terms of income. You find a market, create an appetite for what you offer and they will buy it.
He shares, "Metaphorically, if you have someone who's hungry and you give them a little bit of food, you've only whetted their appetite and they're going to be hungrier. So the methodology I like to use is pull, instead of push. You make your marketing itself valuable to the end user and when you do that, they come to you. You don't have to chase them. You don't have to use the hype. You don't have to bash them over the head or any of that. Just demonstrate you can help them by actually helping them. It's a novel concept."
Kern has a lot of fun engaging with others and helping them as much as he can. From the stage, with video and the written word, he has a history of regaling others with entertaining stories and a fun approach to doing business.
As a result, he has built a loyal audience of raving fans who listen to him with rapt attention, end up buying the programs he creates and ravenously beg for more.

2. Keep it simple
Brevity can be tough, but it’s of critical importance when you only have 140 characters. This means that you need to get to the essence of your idea – and quickly.  
Look at what you’re trying to say. Are there words or phrases you can strip out and still retain your original meaning? 
3. Never tell the whole story up front
What keeps you reading a mystery story? What keeps you watching a really bad movie? What keeps you working on a crossword puzzle, even when you’re stumped over some of the clues?

Quick – can you tell the story of the Tortoise and the Hare? 
You might not be able to recite it word for word, but could you come up with the basic storyline? I’ll bet you could.  And I even bet you probably remember the moral at the end. Slow and steady wins the race. 
What makes Aesop’s fables so memorable and other pieces of good advice too easy to forget? 
Aesop was a master at storytelling to illustrate a point. And within those stories, such as in the Tortoise and the Hare, something unexpected happens, something so out of the ordinary that it sticks in your mind. 
The element of surprise or unexpectedness can be a powerful way of capturing people’s attention and creating content that goes viral (think of Ellen’s multi-celeb selfie from the 86th Academy Awards). You can use text only or an image, as Ellen did, but in some way if you can play with your audience’s expectations, you just might create a tweet with irresistible retweet power.

Make Money Online (Without Spending a Dime)

Making money online used to pretty much require you to have your own Web site, products to sell and some marketing savvy. But a new generation of dot-coms have arisen that will pay you for what you know and who you know without you having to be a web designer or amarketing genius.
But it's hard to tell hype from the real deal. I did a search on "make money online" and "making money online", and much of the information out there is just promoting various infoproducts, mostly about Internet marketing.
I see why people sometimes ask, "Is anyone making money online besides Internet marketing experts?"
So I put together a list of business opportunities with legitimate companies that:
  • Pay cash, not just points towards rewards or a chance to win money
  • Don't require you to have your own Web domain or your own products
  • Don't involve any hard-selling
  • Aren't just promoting more Internet marketing
  • Give a good return on your time investment
In the interest of objectivity, none of the links below are affiliate links, and none of them have paid or provided any other consideration for their presence here. These are legitimate companies with business models that allow you to get paid for a wide range of activities.
Help friends find better jobs.
Sites like ReferEarnsZyoinWho Do You Know For Dough?, and WiseStepp connect employers with prospective employees, many of whom are already employed and not actively job-hunting, via networking - the people who know these qualified candidates. Rewards for referring a candidate who gets hired range from $50 on up to several thousand dollars - not chump change.
Connect suppliers with buyers.If you know a lot of job-seekers (and who doesn't these days?), this is a great way to break into the recruiting business with no overhead.
Referral fees are a common practice in business, but they haven't been used much in online networking sites because there was no way to track them. Sites like Salesconx,InnerSell and uRefer now provide that. Vendors set the referral fees they're willing to pay (and for what), and when the transaction happens, you get paid. uRefer also allows merchants to set up referral programs for introductions and meetings, as well as transactions.
Write.
A growing number of sites will pay for your articles or blog posts. Associated Content andHelium will "pay for performance" based on page views for just about anything you want to write about. Articles on specific topics they're looking for can earn direct payments up to about $200. The rates are probably low for established writers, but if you're trying to break into the field and have time on your hands, they're a great way to start. Also, a lot of companies are looking for part-time bloggers. They may pay per post or on a steady contract. Our Weblogs Guide posts blogging jobs weekly in the forum.
Start your own blog.
You don't have to have your own Web site, or install blogging software, or even figure out how to set up the advertising. At Blogger you can set up a blog for free in less than five minutes without knowing a thing about web design, and Blogger even automates setting up Google AdSense so you can make money off your blog by displaying ads and getting paid when people click on the ads. To make even more money from it, set up an affiliate program (see below) for books, music, etc., and insert your affiliate links whenever you refer to those items. You'll have to get a lot of traffic to become a six-figure blogger, but pick an interesting topic, write well, tell all your friends, and you're off to a good start.
Create topical resource hubs.
Are you an expert on a particular niche topic? Can you put together an overview of the topic and assemble some of the best resources on the topic from around the web? Then you can create topical hubs and get paid through sites like SquidooHugPages andGoogle Knol. Payments are based on a combination of ad revenue and affiliate fees. You'll get higher rates doing it on your own, but these sites have a built-in supply of traffic and tools to make content creation easier.
Advertise other people's products.
If you already have a Web site or a blog, look for vendors that offer related but non-competing products and see if they have an affiliate program. Stick to familiar products and brands - they're easier to sell. To promote those products:
  • Place simple text or graphical ads in appropriate places on your site
  • Include links to purchase products you review or recommend in a blog, discussion forum or mailing list you control
  • Create a dedicated sales page or Web site to promote a particular product
They all work - it just depends on how much time you have to spend on it and your level of expertise with Web design and marketing.
Microstock photography.
You don't have to be a professional photographer to sell your photos for money. People are constantly in need of stock photography for websites, presentations, brochures and so on, and are willing to pay for the right image. People generally search for images on stock photography sites by keywords, not by photographer, so you have the same chance as anyone else of having your image picked. Just be careful that you don't have images of trademarked brands, copyrighted art or people's faces that are readily identifiable (unless you have a model release), but just about anything else is fair game, and I promise - you'd be amazed what people need pictures of, so don't make any assumptions. If it's a decent photo, upload it. Some sites to get you started include FotoliaShutterStockDreamstimeand iStockphoto. The great thing about this is that it's truly "set it and forget it".
The above list is by no means comprehensive, but it highlights some of the new and interesting ways to make money online without investing any money, without having a product of your own, and without having expert sales and marketing skills. Most of all, unlike taking surveys or getting paid to read e-mail, the potential return on your time investment is substantial.

Brainstorming Ideas For Starting A Small Business

Think of yourself, your needs and your personality and then focus that attention on choices that you can truly imagine yourself working with.  Imagine each possibility and take a glance at the cost, amount of resources, tools and other things that you will need to assemble in order to get your business off of the ground.  This process is not designed to discourage you, rather to help you eliminate things from the table so that you can find your dream more easily.  Once you have made up your mind to start a business, the next thing is to find what business you want to start, and these ideas may help you to get focused.

#MaraudersMap Creator Loses His #Facebook #Internship

A few months ago an intrepid (and ballsy) young Harvard student created an app that got a lot of people's attention. Usually, a sentence like that precedes a pretty epic success story which ends with a guy in a Smashing Pumpkins T-shirt making a crap-ton of money. Not in this case. The app in question was called Marauder's Map (based on the one from Harry Potter), developed by Aran Khanna, and it was intended to highlight some glaring oversights in Facebook's location tagging service.

With it installed, users could load up any active chat with somebody who had location services switched on and see where they were going and where they had been in real time. It was invasive and creepy, but for a good reason, it was a guerilla awareness campaign designed to help people understand just how much sensitive information they are broadcasting at any given moment.

Somewhat understandably, Facebook were none too pleased. Within 3 days (and 85,000 downloads) of the extension getting released, Facebook contacted Khanna and asked him to take it down. They also asked him not to speak to the press. At the time, that was as far as the story went, but earlier this week Khanna published a paper about his findings, in which he explained that a short while after the plugin was taken down, Facebook contacted him again - to tell him that they were recanting their offer for a summer internship.

For their part, Facebook claim that Khanna violated their terms, abused user data and disregarded user privacy with Marauder's Map. Equally, they say that they already had a patch locked in for messenger that removed the location tagging issues when the extension came out, they just hadn't implemented it yet. In his paper, Khanna argues that had Marauder's Map not risen to public attention, they might never had bothered dealing with the problem, since nobody knew that there was anything to fix.

The 'misuse' of the data seems to have been the primary justification for Facebook refusing to take Khanna on as an intern, they say that they have no particular issue with employees or interns uncovering privacy flaws, but not when it puts user data at risk. They are also claiming that Khanna's version of events withholds a lot of key information. Khanna, meanwhile, maintains that the principle purpose of release Marauder's Map is what people should be homing in on. He poses the question: "Must future privacy guardians always be on the outside?"

Of course, we have no real way of knowing whether or not Facebook would have dealt with the issue in their own time, free from public pressure, but their vitriolic response to someone who, at heart, was just trying to highlight flaws which need to be addressed, seems to suggest that there's at least a nominal amount of ass-covering going on. Happily, Khanna was able to find another internship with a different, smaller company, which is probably a better fit for him anyway, who knows what he might have uncovered if Facebook had actually invited him in.
